Central Lombok

Most visitors to Lombok follow the coast. Those who turn inland find something different and, for many, more memorable: a landscape of terraced rice fields climbing the southern slopes of Rinjani, traditional Sasak villages where weaving traditions have been passed down through fifteen generations, highland valleys where strawberries grow at altitude and the air carries the chill of the mountain, and a network of waterfalls that spill through dense jungle into cold, clear pools.

 

Central Lombok is the cultural and agricultural heart of the island, where the Sasak people have shaped the land for centuries and where daily life continues largely on its own terms. It is not a region that announces itself loudly. It rewards patience, a good local guide, and a willingness to slow down.
